In January 2018 Byron and I became board members for Denton County Homeschool Association. I joined the association not long after moving to Denton County in 2012. In 2017, they were in need of new board members and Byron and I expressed interest.

In June of 2018, we stepped up as Presidents of the Association.

Since stepping up a Presidents, we started a Chess Club, Middle School and High School Social Clubs, monthly member led field trips, hosted a history fair and 2 science fairs, continued  the tradition of a homeschool spelling bee, reinstated monthly mom nights, and started yearly Enrichment Vendor Fairs for homeschooling families to see what all is available for them. I also created a new website and wrote and send out monthly newsletters to our over 200 members.

But the biggest thing that DCHSA did every year was hold a Homeschool Commencement Ceremony.

Each year we had nearly 40 students celebrate the end of their homeschool journey with us. One year we had 80 students!!

Unfortunately, though actively searching for the last two years, we were unable to find new board members to step up and take our place. Without board members, the association can't function. DCHSA is closing at the end of the month. We are so blessed to have been such a big part of the association for so many years and know that there will be more support groups to sprout up to take the place of DCHSA. Thank you, DCHSA, for the support and encouragement over the years!
