Mom-N-Me Tea

I got to spend Mother's Day with my favorite girl! We did a Mother/Daughter Tea Party at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens and had so much FUN!!!

When we walked in, the little girls were given fairy wings, pixie dust and glitter make-up. They were also allowed to pick out a hat and feather boa to dress up. We had strawberry hot tea and lemonade, sandwiches, scones and tea cakes! Yum!

Look how sweet these jelly sandwiches are!

Then we walked through the garden on a Fairy Parade and the girls sprinkled thier fairy dust on the plants to help them grow. They also listened to a fairy reading a fairy story.

It made for a Mother's Day to remember and a special time with my sweet Selah!

Gabe and the violin

Gabe has been interested (and at some times, obsessed with) classical music since before he turned two, so he was thrilled when GiGi and PopPop gave him a violin for Christmas - and he has LOVED his lessons! I snagged these pictures of Gabe and his beloved violin before his recital.

Isn't he about the cutest little violinist ever?!?

Cinco de Mayo

We celebrated Cinco de Mayo by eating enchiladas, chips and salsa and arroz con leche and of course - making brown bag pinatas again this year! The kids had a blast using deciding on what patterns to use to decorate thier pinatas!

Then they had an even better time demolishing their pinatas!

Watch out, Daddy!

We are still eating all of the candy!

Then we took a walk and climbed some trees:

And I snagged what are now some of my favorite pictures of Gabe and Selah:

Gabe's 1st Recital

Gabriel had his very first violin recital last night! I am so proud of him!! He surprised me, GiGi and Memaw with a little introduction at first and stole the show with a quadruple bow at the end! You have to see the video. It is adorable!!!

A little back ground on the song. The version here was not even in his lesson book. Gabe's teacher, Ms. Kendra, assigned him the first line of "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven as written in his lesson book and Gabe decided to try to play the rest of the song on his own, so Kendra wrote all of the melody line for him. He did an excellent job at his first performance! Wish you all could have been there!!

My Mom

In honor of Mother's Day I thought I would do a post all about my mom.

My mom is 5 foot tall...maybe. When I was growing up she was a Methodist Minister. She had to stand on a box to see over the pulpit. What she lacks in height she makes up for in almost everything else. When she is in a crowded room, you may not see her over the heads of everyone else, but you won't miss her laugh! She has a beautiful laugh - a laugh you can't miss and you don't mistake. She has a generous heart and  she has the gift of giving. She loves to give gifts, whether it be something simple or elaborate and puts tons of thought into each gift she gives.

I mentioned that she was a Methodist Minister. She was a great pastor, always there for her congration, no matter what. BUT she is an awesome teacher. Momma left the ministery about 12 years ago to teach high school special needs students. This is her passion! The students love her to death - and she loves them right back. I was able to help at the Pre-Prom she and the other special education teachers throw for them each year. It is definately an act of love!

Momma is very girly - she loves pink, romance stories, flowers, lace and pearls. Yet, she doen't have a vain bone in her body. Her hair is usually disheveled from working hard with her students, or playing with her grandkids or Frankie the dog (yet she still looks beautiful and put together - I have to find out her secret to that!). Her nails are always short and very rarely painted, she wears little to no make-up, and flats are her preference. She doesn't need any of that. She is gorgeous without it!

My mom is so supportive and encouraging to all of us - daughters, son-in-laws, and grandchildren. We never question her pride in us. In fact, when my kids have reached big milestones, they want to call GiGi so that she can sing them the "Proud of You" song!

I love my mom, and I am blessed to have her in my life! Happy Mother's Day, Momma!!!

(She hates her picture taken unless it is with her grandkids and even then 9 times out of 10 she won't look at the camera. I was able to snag these pictures at Pre-Prom and LOVE them! I wish she would let me take her picture more often - I know she doesn't think so, because she doesn't like the way she looks - but she is so photogenic!)

Easter 2011

We had a really fun Easter weekend. On Saturday we went to our Sunday School Class's egg hunt and picnic.

Selah was so funny - she would find an egg, open it and if she liked it, she would put it in her basket. If the contents were less than satisfiying, she would close it back up, and re-hide the egg!!

Gabe was such a good hunter we had to tell him to quit picking up eggs! He had so many in his basket, it couldn't hold any more!

Miguel wasn't sure about this whole egg hunt thing. Here he is demonstrating his best "Papaw" face - and doing a very good job of it!!

He did think the eggs were pretty fun to play with though.

On Easter Sunday morning, the kids hunted for eggs in our apartment. Each egg had part of a message (some verses). When put together they summed up the Easter Story.

The egg with #12 had a dollar inside, too!!

My favorite Easter activitiy this year was our Resurrection Eggs. Each egg had a small token and a Bible verse. We opened one egg a day until Easter. By Easter Sunday the kids knew the whole Easter story. In fact, Selah's Sunday School teacher said she was the only one in the class that could tell the story of Easter and even added detail!! (Proud Mommy Moment)

Hope you had a Happy Easter as well!!!
