First Day of School 2022-2023

We have started school for the 2022-2023 year and this year we have a senior!!!

Gabe is only doing Dual Credit classes this year to finish up his High School degree. He is taking Pre-Calculus and English Comp 1 this semester and Comp 2 and Anatomy and Physiology next semester. He is spending any time not doing school working on college applications and ACT/SAT test prep. He is also working at Chic-fil-A and helping to lead worship for the church youth group.

Selah started 10th grade. She is in year 2 of Worldview, Spanish 3, Algebra 2, Chemistry and piano.

Mig is in 7th grade this year. His classes are Algebra 1, General Science, Spanish, Language Arts, History (Wars of Independence to Modern Times), art and piano.

Faith is in 5th grade now! Her classes are Math 5/4, Language Arts, Spanish for Elementary, History (Wars of Independence - Modern Times), Science In the Age of Reason, art and piano.

This is my 12th year of homeschooling. When you add it to my years teaching public school, it is 17 years total of formal teaching. This is my favorite gig so far, though!

We are ready for a fun year!!

Kids Praise Camp 2022

We always spend the last week of July at Choir Camp. I have been directing the Mini-camp for ages 3-6 for 8 years now. Selah and Gabe have been helping since each of them finished 6th grade and this year was the first year for Mig to help.

We teach them 3 performance songs and some fun songs, too. We lead a Bible study each day, games, crafts and snacks. At the end of the week we are completely exhausted - but also so full!

The mini-camp theme this year was the Tale of Three Trees.

I always have the best youth helpers!

Such a sweet group of kids and leaders!

Faith is part of the Elementary Choir Camp and this year was chosen to be on the stomp percussion team!

She had a blast!!!

She has a sweet group of friends!

Friday night is the performance. The Mini-campers perform 3 songs and a short skit and the elementary kids perform a full length musical all learned in one week!

It is always my favorite week of the summer!

Oklahoma Baptist University Tour

Our 4th College tour was to Oklahoma Baptist University. (1-Dallas Baptist University, 2 - Baylor, 3 - UMHB, 4-OBU).

We have some friends that went to OBU and loved it. It is a very small school, but so friendly!

These guys have hung with us for all but DBU.

Gabe met with a philosophy professor and a music professor and was even able to perform an original composition for him on the piano.

While at OBU, they had an application already ready for him to fill out.

This week we opened the mail box to find......

His first acceptance letter!!!

He applied to Baylor on Tuesday - we are still waiting for that acceptance letter to come. He also plans to apply at DBU.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Tour

On our last day in Belton we toured my alma matter - UMHB!

What a welcome!

First Gabe met with an admissions councilor. It was such a relief to have him look at Gabe's ACT score and transcript and tell him that he will automatically be accepted once he applies and in fact is eligible for a pretty hefty scholarship!!

I gave my heart to Jesus there in the chapel - so it has a special place in my heart.

Since I was a student they added a football field!

Another very sweet personal touch!

The stone arches and bell tower at the center of UMHB are a tribute to Luther Hall, the first building constructed on campus when UMHB moved from Independence, Texas, in 1886. Luther Hall was considered to be one of the finest academic buildings in Texas, until it burned down on January 26, 1929. The memorial was constructed in 1955, from the stones of Luther Hall. It includes a bell tower with two historical bells. The Horton Bell, the lower bell in the tower, is from the University’s first location in Independence. The upper bell, the sophomore bell, can only be rung by sophomores as a traditional privilege reserved for them. They fervently ring the bell for special occasions and with each academic year. It has become a gathering place for students and a backdrop for various programs on campus, including the annual Easter Pageant and freshmen dubbing ceremony.
