Kentucky Derby Party

Byron and I went to our first Kentucky Derby party this year. We were supposed to come dressed for the Derby with hats! I bought a plain black hat and embellished it.

Our horse didn't win - the horse that won was a big surprise to everyone! But, we had a lot of fun dressing up and being fancy!

While we were all dolled up, we took some new portraits to be used for the Elder Board at church.

We have fun doing life together!

AWANA Awards

Our kids have been part of the AWANA program since around 2011 and love being part of this group!

Awana  is an evangelical ministry that provides Bible-based evangelism and graded discipleship resources for children and teens ages 2–18. The name Awana is an acronym for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed,” which comes from their key verse: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV). The goal of Awana is to “reach kids, equip leaders, and change the world” by making one disciple at a time.

At the beginning of May we were able to participate in the end of year AWANA awards.

To be awarded the kids have to finish their handbooks which helps them memorize many verses and also to study about global mission work. Memorizing is NOT easy for Faith, but she completed her book and is busy trying to catch up from last year's COVID shortened year. She is in the T&T (Truth and Training) Girls group.

Mig also received his award. Mig is part of the Trek group.

Selah received her first high school award - their group is called Journey.

AWANA is also intentional on training the kids to become servant leaders. Gabe and Selah lead music and help out with the youngest AWANA group called Cubbies.

Cinco de Mayo 2022

We have such a good time celebrating Cinco de Mayo each year! We eat Mexican food and treats, listen to salsa music and have fun!

2015 vs. 2022

Each year the kids make their own pinatas.

Then they bust them open!

We have as much fun as the kids, too!

Kids Praise Spring Concert 2022

On May 1 the Kids Praise choir presented their spring concert and it was AMAZING!

Faith had a big speaking part explaining the parable of the sower.

She also was part of an ensemble.

She also had a solo!! She was a busy girl!

At the end of the program she was presented an award for learning 10 hymns and awards.

The whole concert was awesome! We are so blessed to be part of this amazing ministry!

Texas Christian Homeschool Prom 2022

Everyone is surprised to find out that there is a Prom for homeschoolers. In fact - the homeschool prom is like Super Prom!! This year was Gabe's first year to attend.

Isn't he handsome?!?

He didn't take a date, but went with a group of friends from church and his Worldview class.

I know how awesome it was because I was there, too!! I was a photographer there. The theme of the prom was Through the Decades and they had so many photo opportunities all over the venue.

In fact, a good portion of my night was spent photographing a DeLorean with Doc and Marty.

It was fun but exhausting work! Gabe had a blast and is so excited for next year's prom!
