Look who's 11!!!

He has a big smile and an even bigger heart and today he turns 11!!!

Gabe loves music. He has since he was born, it seems. He is an excellent pianist and loves singing in the Middle School Choir at church.

Gabe also loves to read and to do science experiments.

Gabe knew exactly how he wanted his pictures this year. He wanted some by the piano and some by the lake. There are trails behind our new house that lead to some amazing lake views!!

Gabe is a sweet boy that loves his family, has many friends and most of all loves Jesus! We are so proud of the young man he is becoming and can't wait to see how the Lord uses him as he grows.

Happy birthday, Gabe! You are LOVED!

Look who is 5!!

Five years ago we had no idea that halfway across the world a little girl was being born that would change our lives forever.

Faith is full of joy. It exudes from her eyes, her smile and her laugh. She is a determined and exuberant little girl who loves her family and friends.

She has blessed us in so many ways.

We are humbled and thankful that we were chosen as her forever family.

Happy 5th birthday, sweet girl!! You are loved!

Adoption Awareness Month

November is Adoption Awareness Month. Our family has been so blessed by the miracle of adoption. What an awesome picture of God's love and redemption played out in our family in a very real way!! Here are some adoption facts for you (many thanks to Byron for finding these):

40% of adopted children are of a different race, culture, or ethnicity than one or both of their adoptive parents.

One out of every 25 US families with children have an adopted child. According the the US Census, about half of these have both biological and adopted children.

Today, about 135,000 children are adopted in America every year - from the foster care system, private domestic agencies, family members, and other countries.

It is estimated the 140 million children worldwide are orphans. I am so happy that our little Faith no longer bears this title!!

81.5 million Americans have considered adoption. If only 1 in 500 of these adults adopted, every waiting child in foster care would have a permanent family.

Have you considered adoption? Do you have questions? I would be willing to answer them. Adoption is a blessing beyond what you can imagine - not just for the adoptee, but even more so for the lucky family that adopts one of the precious little children.

I wrote a guest post on the blog of a young adult who was adopted from China at the age of 3 about the blessing of adoption. Go read it here:

Halloween 2016

We started our Halloween Night with a fun dinner: stuffed bell peppers!

When dinner was over, the kids put on their costumes. This year Faith and Selah were little witches, Mig was a police officer and Gabe was the Headless Horseman. (He had just finished reading The Legend of Sleepy Hallow for school.)

We decided to bring Baylor trick-or-treating this year - he loved it!

Our new neighborhood is a cul de sac with only 7 houses, so we drove to our old neighborhood to trick or treat.

It was a beautiful evening!!

We even found another headless horseman!

The kids ended up getting so much candy!!!

They spent the first morning of November doing candy inventory!

October Fun

We started Halloween weekend with a Fall Festival Prepare and Share. All of the kids did their presentation in costume! Even the moms dressed up!

After the presentations we had lunch and then festival games including bobbing for apples, a ring toss, bean bag toss, trivia game and a relay race.

That night we carved our pumpkin.

Doesn't everyone carve their pumpkin with an electric saw?

It turned out pretty nice!!

That Saturday, our nephew came over to babysit so Byron and I could go to a costume party!

Such a fun time celebrating fall!!
