Homeschool History Fair

On November 12th the kids and I headed to the library for a homeschool history fair!

Each student was asked to research a positive role-model in history. They created a tri-fold display and wrote a 1-2 minute speech from the point of view of their person. Then they came to the library dressed as their person from history.

Mig was Will Jimeno, first responder to the 9/11 attacks.

Faith was Helen Keller

Each student had a "Play" button in front of their display. They were to stand like a statue in front of their display until their button was pushed. Then they would present their speeches to the visitors of our fair.

This was a DCHSA event. DCHSA (Denton County Homeschool Association) is the homeschool group that we have been members of since moving to Denton. Last year Byron and I were made presidents of the association. We have around 230 families and offer events like this, a spelling bee, science fair and graduation. We also have clubs and field trips. It is a great community!

We had a great group of kids participate!!

After the fair I contacted Will Jimeno - who survived the attacks on the World Trade Center and was one of the last to be pulled out of the remains. I told him about Mig's project and he was very touched!! He even posted about Mig on his personal Facebook page.

What a great, hands-on learning experience!!
