We made it through another year of homeschooling!!
As Serna tradition, we had a presentation for Principal Daddy on the evening of our last day. Each child prepared something to teach or share with him. Faith was up first. She prepared a dramatic reading of the Mo Willems's Elephant and Piggy book - I Really Like Slop.
.
She read the Piggy parts and I read the Elephant (Gerald) parts.
Mig did a presentation on light and the color spectrum. - Toby Cat was very interested in his presentation.
Selah reported on the life and scientific contributions of Isaac Newton.
Gabe had a report on the Pythagorean Theorem.
At the end of each year, we finish science and history about 6 weeks before school is out. We use that time to do a unit study. This year, we delved into the life and works of William Shakespeare.
Each child gave a report on some part of Shakespeare's life. Mig gave a biography of his life.
Gabe told us about his company of actors.
Selah taught us all about the history of the Globe Theater.
Faith gave a summary of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and recited one of Oberon's soliloquies.
Then, for the grand finale, they presented a scene from "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
Gabe introduced the scene as Shakespeare himself.
Selah played the part of Snout (the Wall).
Mig played Nick Bottom as Pyramus.
Gabe played Flute as Thisby.
Faith played the Lion.
Selah also had the part of "Moonshine".
They really enjoyed playing the tragic, Romeo and Juliet-ish, ending.
Toby also wanted a part in the play.
Bravo!! Bravo!!! Bravissimo!!
And here is their performance:
At the end of the year, I also hand out awards for special achievements. Gabriel finally got his certificate for mastery of his addition and subtraction facts (not that he didn't know them, but he just hadn't completed the program until this year.) I love this picture of him, though. He is a happy kid and his laughs are always so intense!! Just like this picture.
Selah completed ALL of her facts - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
And the end of the evening all of the kids were presented their certificates of promotion.
In the fall we will have a 1st grader, a 3rd grader, a 6th grader and an 8th grader!!
What an awesome end of the year!! Good job Serna kids!!
