AWANA Bible Quiz

A few weeks ago Gabe and Selah participated in the AWANA Bible Quiz.

This was Selah's first year. She was so happy to do it with her favorite friend. They were first up for the multiple-choice and speed round and did very well.

The boys went last. Gabe was able to participate with the same team members from last year.

Their team also did great at the speed round.

There is a rule that if one player answers two questions in a row, they are blocked from answering any more questions until someone else from their team answers. Part way through the quiz Gabe answered two questions. The next question his team mate buzzed in. When asked the answer, his team-mate responded with, "I don't know. I'm just getting Gabe out of quiz block." It was hilarious!

When  all of the quizzers were finished, they announced that there was going to need to be a tie-breaker and the girls were called up to participate.

They ended up winning the tie-break round!

Then it was announced that there was another tie. This time the boys were called up with another team from our church (this is a district wide meet).

After tying three times, the boys finally won the tie-breaker!

They waited to see what place they would be awarded:

It was quite intense.

Selah made a 95 on her written test and received a certificate. (They couldn't figure out how to pronounce her name, which she thought was quite funny.)

Gabe made a 90 on his written test and received a certificate.

And then the winners were revealed! The girls received 3rd place!!

The boys ALSO received 3rd place!!

We are so thankful for the coaches who spent so much time and energy preparing these sweet kids!

I think the real winners were the audience members, though. We were able to witness these kids reciting verse after verse and truth after truth. Watching my kids stand up at a microphone and boldly proclaim the Gospel made me cry tears of joy because it was just so beautiful!!

Thank you AWANA!!

More April Birthday Celebrations

On April 2nd Baylor turned 1 year old! He is by far the biggest one year old I know, weighing in a 82 pounds!

He got a new water bowl and a meat bone for his presents.

On our way home from celebrating the triplets and Pop-Pop's birthday, we took Baylor to the Baylor University campus for some a pit stop.

I mean pictures.

On April 15th we celebrated my birthday. 35 + 1.

This face! HA!! I think this must show how their Birthday Song sounded. So funny!

The day itself was kind of crazy... it stared out with a trip to the hospital for Faith. She had an abscess that was not responding to antibiotics and had to be drained deeply. She was able to come home by the afternoon and we had dinner, cake and presents.

Selah made me a beautiful crocheted sunflower (my favorite of all flowers!).

And Byron wanted a picture, too!

HA!! Speaking of crazy faces!

Once dinner and dessert was done, Selah, Gabe and I headed to the Campus Theater and saw an amazing performance of Mary Poppins.

The following weekend Byron took me to The Cheesecake Factory to celebrate, too! Yum!!

Many thanks to my sweet family for making me feel so special on my birthday.

PS - Faith is much, much better now. Praise to God!

Race Day!

The weekend after the big 60th birthday party was the Duck Commander 500 race! Mom, Selah, Faith, Tali and I sent the race fans off to the race like this:

A fake beard can't fool this little one - she would know her Pop-Pop anywhere!

After the boys and Amanda left, the girls got their nails painted, their hair fixed and pretty dresses on.

Mom and I took them out for tea and cupcakes!

The racers had a great time, even though it was cold and rainy and the girls had fun being girls. What a great weekend!

Ready....Set....60!!

April 1st was a busy day! Not only was it the Triplets' 5th birthday, it was Dad G's (AKA -Pop-Pop's) 60th Birthday!

Mom and I decided it would be a racing theme because he likes the races - but also because of his big surprise present. Mom, Amanda, Jackie and I had so much fun decorating for the big event!

After the triplets' fun hotel costume party, we headed back to Mom and Dad G's house for the 60th party. We had sandwiches and then opened presents.

The first present contained the BIG surprise...

Tickets to the Duck Commander 500 race!!

And the biggest part of the surprise was that there were tickets for all of the boys of the family and Amanda!! I had kept the secret from Gabe - here is his face when he realized he would be going to the race, too!!

Many of his gifts went along with the race theme, like toilet paper from Amanda. This was a little inside joke. When Amanda was little he would take her to the races, but make a stop in the bathroom for toilet paper to stuff in her ears because he always forgot the ear plugs!

To make the celebration even more fun, we had surprise guests! Jackie and Ernest came up from Miami to help celebrate. They also brought a special gag gift...

There used to be a fake poop that was passed around at birthdays and Christmas, but over the years, it has gotten lost. But, have no fear, Aunt Jackie found a new one! And so the tradition continues....

.....BUT there is also an inside joke between the Miami crew and Dad G involving pickles, so Dad G got a little confused.

He thought the fake poop was a fake pickle and pretended to eat it!

This, of course, made a funny gag gift just that much funnier!!

Such a fun celebration!

It was great to be able to celebrate this sweet man. Dad G is the kind of guy that doesn't like a whole lot of attention. He prefers to be behind the scenes...even this party was more party than he really wanted. He is thoughtful and caring - always making sure we are safe and have what we need. He shows love through acts of service and I am convinced that he can fix anything! He has a gentle and calming personality, yet he is so funny!! He loves to make us laugh and then laughs along with us! We are all so blessed that he is a part of our family!

Happy Birthday, Pop-Pop! And many more!!!
