9/11 Tribute and portraits

Last year the kids participated in a Homeschool History Fair. Mig did his report on Will Jimeno; first Responder and one of the last pulled from the World Trade Center on 9/11. This year has been a tough year for our heroes in blue. I took some tribute pictures of Mig for remembrance of 9/11. Mr. Jimeno saw Mig's picture and reposted it with these beautiful words:

As we come to the end of another year of remembering September 11th and those we lost. I think about a question I'm asked frequently the last couple months. The question is, would I still encourage young men and women to become police officers since they have been under attack by hate groups, their own politicians and a certain segment of those they serve? My answer is yes, I do! The reason I do, is because something the hate groups, certain politicians, and those segments of certain communities are missing is that the thin blue line is not evil, racist or anything negative at all. The fact is when you step back and truly look at what police officers do, it is overwhelming good and they are not only needed but wanted. If you need proof, just look at what many of my brothers and sisters did on 9/11 and what they gave to all people, they gave their lives. That is true every day, month and year since 9/11 and before. Tonight, as I am blessed to be home with my family, I know in my heart there will always be many who are called to serve and protect and do so knowing they might not be wanted, praised or loved but will do it because they know it is a calling to ensure their fellow Americans are safe and we can live in a land of peace. I'm encouraged by many young men and women who want to serve and protect not only because they love their communities but love their fellow Americans and our great nation. This picture truly shows me we have a bright future ahead of us and we will overcome the pandemic, the racial issues and even political issues because there is more love for our nation for good reason. We are the land of the free and home of the brave and if you can dream it you can attain it. Love to all of you and let us become who we were on September 12, 2001. A nation that loves each other and cares for each other no matter what. #neverforgetπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡²#thinbluelinefamily πŸ’™ @themrsserna

Labor Day at the Safari

It is time to do a major blog catch-up!!

On Labor Day we took a semi-impromptu road trip to Jacksonville, TX to drive through the safari.

It was a lovely drive and a beautiful day!

The animals were out and were hungry!

Chinese Pere David Deer:

White tail deer:

Black buck - he reminded us of Narnia's Mr. Tumnus:

The zebra were a favorite:

The donkeys made us all laugh!! They did this every time I pointed the camera at them!

Alligator:

Watusi:

The camels were very friendly!

Isn't this baby cute?

Highland cattle:

We had never heard of the Cherokee Trace Drive-Thru Safari before, but we were so pleased with our trip! We had originally wanted to go to the Glen Rose safari, but they were completely booked for the day. It was a fun way to spend Labor Day.

Mig is a perfect TEN!!

WOW!! 10 years old! A whole decade of Mig!

This little guy loves football, police officers, Dude Perfect and TobyMac.

He is about the coolest kid I know. And one of the sweetest - with a bit of wild side on the side!

He loves to make us laugh and try to keep a straight face. He is also so helpful!

We have been blessed with a decade of Mig!!

Happy 10th birthday, Miggy!
