College Tour #1

 

I can't believe that it is already time to start visiting colleges with Selah!!

Our first tour (and maybe the only one she takes?) was her first choice school - Dallas Baptist University!

A perk is that she already has a friend there! 

He even got to join us for the Chapel experience.

We had a great time spending the day together and touring DBU.

Selah isn't sure if she wants to look anywhere else. A big draw of DBU for her is the scholarship they give for completing the AWANA Citation Award. She has been working toward her citation since the 6th grade and DBU is the only Texas University to give an AWANA Scholarship. We will keep thinking and praying about what her next steps are after graduation in Spring 2025! 

Mig's 13th Birthday Celebration

Mig had a super awesome birthday week!!!

On Monday evening he got his first Civil Air Patrol promotion! He is now officially Cadet Airman Serna and in the Charlie flight of his squadron. He was also selected for the Rifle Guard! 

We didn't know that parents could be part of the pinning ceremony - otherwise Byron would have dressed up a bit more!

On Tuesday Miguel had his first ever airplane ride with a friend of Byron's.

He even sat in the front seat!

Thursday was his 13th birthday! I think he felt super loved!

He got some CAP gear, a coffee cup, hat and pen. 

And a Flight Jacket! 

His cake was an oreo dirt cake with layers of chocolate cake, hot fudge, chocolate pudding, chocolate icing and oreos!

On Saturday his closest friends (and Gabe) joined him for an afternoon of paintball! 

And more chocolate cake! 

They all had a great time! 

BEST WEEK EVER!!

Cadet Mig is 13!

Mig turned 13 on October 12. He wanted his birthday pictures in his CAP uniform and with his bass guitar and I wanted to try some dynamic portraits with lights and smoke!

It took me a little while to get my lights to cooperate with me, but when they did, the pictures were so cool!!

We had to work quickly, just as we started to get our groove, it started sprinkling and thundering!

Mig is such a neat kid and everyone that gets to know him is quick to tell us how cool they think he is. He is genuine, laid back, and fun! He is still loving playing bass in his youth praise team and really loves the Civil Air Patrol. I think we are in for a fun 13th year!!

 

The BIG 45!

 

On Sunday Byron turned 45 years young. We knew that Sunday was going to be busy with church, a luncheon, choirs and AWANA, so we celebrated on Saturday with gifts, dinner at Gloria's, a trip to Scheel's and watching the newest Indiana Jones movie at home. 

I also made him a delicious Tres Leches cake!

We also straightened Gabe's hair for fun! 

We are so blessed to do life with this guy!! 

Homeschool SPIRIT WEEK 2023

 Every year we participate in the International Homeschool Spirit Week - always the last week of September by going along with themes chosen before hand by homeschoolers. 

 

Monday was Decade Day

Tuesday was Tropical Day

Wednesday was Plaids, Patterns, and Polka Dots Day

Thursday was my favorite: Book Character Day!
