Chinese New Year 2023

Happy Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) 2023!!

This year Lunar New Year fell on a Sunday. Between that, having a busy schedule and our friends that celebrate with us having just gotten back from Taiwan, we didn't have a big celebration. Instead, Faith wore her traditional Chinese silk dress to church and afterwards we went to Panda Express. Here are some pictures of her in her beautiful dress.

Celebrating a New Year

New Year's Eve is one of our favorite things to celebrate as a family!! 

We have celebrated with our annual Boys vs. Girls Minute to Win It Games since 2013! Every year the boys win -except last year when Aunt Nicol and Uncle Felix were here. 

Game 1: Shoot a marshmallow through the wreath and into a bucket. The team with the most marshmallows in the bucket in a minute, wins! 

The boys won. 

Boys: 1 Girls: 0

The next game was to pass the wreath from one person to the next 5 times without using your hands. Best time wins! 

Boys win, again!

Boys: 2 Girls: 0

The next game, partners had to stand behind their team mates and throw cotton balls into a hat they are holding are holding. Most in a minute wins!

Boys win! 

Boys: 3 Girls: 0

The next game was a parents only game. We had to scoop cotton balls out of the hat in our laps and into the bowls on our heads. Most in 1 minute wins!

Girls win!!

Boys: 3 Girls:1

The next game was a kids only game. They had to stick as many post-its on their face as they could in 1 minute. It is harder than it looks! 

There was a tie between Gabe and Faith so they had a showdown!

Gabe won! 

Mig used the post-its to decorate his hat!

Boys: 4 Girls:1 

For the next game, players had to suck a skittle up on a straw and transfer it to a bowl across the room. Again - harder than it looks! 

Girls win!!

Boys: 4 Girls: 2

Then we set cups on the edge of a table, blew up a balloon without tying it off and used the air to blow the cups off the table. Fastest time wins.

Byron was CRAZY fast at this!

Boys: 5 Girls: 2

Then we moved the opposite color cup to the top of the stack one cup at a time. 

Boys win!

Boys: 6 Girls: 2

None of us were able to accomplish the next task. We were supposed to quickly pull the papers out from between the cups to make them stack without falling. We tried many things, but couldn't do it! 

Still Boys: 6 Girls: 2

For next game we had to scoot around the staircase on a towel backwards. Best time wins! 

Boys win!

Boys: 7 Girls: 2

Then we played Snowball fight - always our last game. The Boys won that as well. 

Final score:

Boys: 8 Girls: 2

Boys WIN AGAIN!

After our games we went to the back porch and did sparklers as we welcomed in the new year.
