Choir Concerts and AWANA Awards

All of the kids had their choir concerts this month. Our church's Kids Praise concert was first. Mig and Faith are in Kids Praise.

You can see Faith's little head right behind the boy with the broken arm - I'm not sure why she got put on the second row. She is much shorter than the cuties beside her and the boys in front of her.

Mig is in front of the director looking stage left.

Both Faith and Mig received awards, too. Faith received an award for learning 10 hymns and Bible verses to go with them.

Mig received an award for learning 30 hymns and verses.

The next Friday night was AWANA award night. Mig, Selah, and Gabe all received awards for completing books. Faith got a small award on a club night for finishing her second Sparks book. Here is her Sparks group:

Gabe and Selah's group is 6th through 8th grade and is a HUGE group this year!

Gabe will be joining the final AWANA group in the fall - Journey.

This past Sunday was the Middle School Choir concert. They did a beautiful job!

Selah was given a speaking part this year.

And Gabe was chosen for a solo.

Here is a short video of Selah's line and Gabe's solo. They both did a GREAT job!!

These kiddos are going to be heading to Louisiana in a few weeks on a choir tour to bring their concert to a few churches there. Gabe and Selah are so excited!

Our First Science Fair!

At the end of April all 4 kids participated in our local homeschool science fair - and boy was it exciting!!

These pictures were taken just moments after tornado sirens started sounding. The librarians quickly herded us to the supply closet where we spent the next hour and a half waiting out the storm. It happened to be an elderly lady's birthday, so we sang happy birthday, had chips and crackers, and made the most of our time as a tornado swept past only a block away from us!

Once it was safe, we came out of our safe space and proceeded with the fair!

The kids worked hard on their projects and learned so much!

Faith project tested what household items make the best preservatives. She found out that lemon juice works best.

Mig tested whether or not drag effects a plane's flight distance.

Selah successfully removed DNA from an onion.

Gabe tested the 5 second rule - you know if food is safe to eat off the floor as long as you pick it up withing 5 seconds. He even built an incubator to grow bacteria! Even though his research told him that it is not, his experiment demonstrated that it is safe to eat.

They each had to present their projects to the three judges (Byron was a judge!).

Faith was so proud of her Participation Award!!

There were a total of 14 projects done by elementary and middle school students. One student made a Tesla coil, one student tested wind energy - these were all amazing projects. Homeschoolers are awesome!

Mig won 1st place for the elementary age participants!

We were proud of all 4 of our kids and the other kids that participated! Despite our late and kind of scary start, it was an impressive fair!

Easter 2019

We had a great Easter! On Saturday afternoon we dyed eggs - Faith loves dying eggs!

On Easter morning, the kids found their baskets full of fun!

We quickly ate donuts for breakfast.

Then we headed for the sunrise service at a beautiful Denton park.

Here we are dressed in our Easter best.

After the Sunrise Service we went to our regular church service and then we headed home for a ham lunch and an egg hunt in the back yard.

This year instead of a traditional hunt, we tried something new. The kids broke into two teams. Gabe and Faith were on team 1 and Selah and Mig made team 2. The youngest on each time went first. Each hunter could only find one egg at a time. They had to run it back to their team's basket and tag the next hunter. The first team to gather 24 eggs won! They loved this game!

Selah and Mig completed the hunt first. :)

Then they got confetti eggs.

Gabe get a little rough with the girls - so Daddy let the girls get him back.

We spent the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the beautiful weather.

Smiles

By the end of March, Faith had lost two top front teeth. I love that toothless grin!!

Then on April 10th Selah got her round two braces!!

Here she is before the braces:

And here she is after the braces were put on:

She will wear these for up to two years. She is already counting down the days until she is metal free!

AWANA T&T Bible Quiz

On April 14 we went to Stonebrier Community Church (home church of Chuck Swindoll) for the T&T Bible Quiz.

Gabe was a coach.

And Mig competed on a team!

Silly boys!

 They did an awesome job!

This is the speed round - it is so nerve wracking!

Next was the multiple choice round.

Look at all of those quizzers!!!

Mig's team didn't place, but they all had fun and they hid a lot of the Word in their hearts - and that is all that matters!
