Back to Life Walk

This weekend our family participated in the Back to Life walk benefiting Denton's Pregnancy center.

We participated as a team with some of the members of our Small group Bible Study. The following is a picture of our team - "The Psalm 39ers":

The weather could not have been more perfect! There was a great turn out for the event. Even a few clowns were there to walk!

The kids held the signs proudly the whole walk and did such a great job walking!

We walked around downtown Denton.

Our friend, Kayla, received a prize for being the top earning walker and our team came in 2nd place!

It was a really great experience for us all!

A Little Music from Gabe

Last week Gabe asked me to record him playing some of his new music for the blog, so here it is:

The Triplets Turn Two

Last Saturday we went down to Georgetown to help the triplets celebrate their 2nd birthday! It was quite the  party! They LOVE the Nick Jr. show, Bubble Guppies, and so their party had to be a Bubble Guppies Party. It was so cute! Rachel did an awesome job putting it together!

GiGi made them a candy cake - and it was SOOOO GOOD! Gabe had a cavity filled the week before the party - I'm thinking we may have another one just from this cake! HA!

Here are the terrific two year olds -

Charli Kate:

Adrik:

Natalia:

In the backyard, Rachel and Will had set up a trampoline, a small bounce house, and a sand table. The kids were loving it all - and then the big event showed up. Horses! They had rented some ponies for all of the kids to ride!

Up until now Selah has been terrified of horses. The day before the party she told me that she would ride the horse, but only if PopPop walked with her. He was happy to oblige.

After the pony rides, we were treated to pizza, cake and ice cream.

It was another super fun day!!

Easter 2013

We had a super fun Easter Weekend!!

On Saturday we went to a Helicopter Egg Drop at a local elementary school. There was a petting zoo:

Then the 5 and under crowd had a special egg hunt

Next, the Easter Bunny flew up in a helicopter and dropped eggs out of it!

Once the coast was clear, the 5 and over group was allowed to go and gather eggs.

After the drop, we took a little train ride

Then we went out for lunch and headed home to paint eggs.

On Easter Sunday we went to church. After church the sweet DeKoning family came over to have a yummy lunch and a more traditional egg hunt.

Very, very fun time for all!!

There is joy ahead.

The verse on my computer screen this month is so appropriate for my post today. It is 1 Peter 1:6 which has been paraphrased as, "Be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead." Byron's Aunt Della knew this joy. She passed away on Monday, March 18, but now she is experiencing wonderful joy first hand.

Every time I saw Della she was smiling, joking and laughing. Della did not have an easy life. She was a single mother, never had much money and had muscular dystrophy. But, she had joy in the Lord. The most precious part of Della's funeral service for me was when her daughter, Brenda played a recording of Della. I can't remember word for word what she said, but the jest of it was that she knew suffering, pain, and persecution, but she also knew joy. That joy came from knowing Jesus and we can all have that joy, too. He never leaves us, he is always with us. The joy of the Lord was her strength. (Nehemiah 8:10) What a beautiful witness!

I would like to share some pictures I took at the burial. For my sweet Serna family, please feel free to print these. Just click to open the image in a separate window and then right click on the picture and save it to your computer where you can send it out to be printed or print at home.

Funerals are always so bitter sweet. Della will truly be missed by so many people here on earth, but we rejoice that she is where there is no more pain, no more dying, and that she is with the Lord that was always her strength and her joy.

Della was laid to rest at the same place that her mother, brother Fred, and sisters Angelica and Delores were  laid to rest. They are all reunited once again.

Below are the three remaining siblings, Paul, Phyllis and Byron's dad, Nick.

Byron's brother Nick and sister Nicol were both able to attend the services as well.
